The Windward Islands: A Sample Itinerary

Map of the Windward Islands

The Windward Islands & Grenadines are a sailor's paradise!

Regardless of which islands in the Windwards you explore, you will find warm waters in every conceivable shade of blue, endless variations of tropical flowers and brightly colored birds, air that is balmy and perfumed with the scent of sensual spices and sweet tropical fruits. Enjoy the perfect white or black sandy beaches, colorful reefs with some of the world’s best snorkeling and diving, and a rainbow of rich cultures and histories.

Day 1/night 1

You will meet your yacht and crew after lunch at Young Island Cut, St. Vincent. It is a short downwind sail to Bequia. Bequia is an old whaling island and a favorite among yachtsmen. Locals are descendents of the Scots and French and still build boats by hand along the beach.

The shops in town are decorated in gingerbread and offer a variety of local crafts, boutiques, food markets, a book store, bars and restaurants many with a nautical theme in keeping the fishing and boating tradition that remains alive and well today. For scuba enthusiasts, a dive at the Moon Hole is not to be missed. You can enjoy water sports at the south end of the long powdery beach that extends through town. After dinner, enjoy a local jump up with live music!

Day 2 /night 2

It is a close reach to Mustique. A cruise in the Grenadines wouldn't be complete without stopping at this exclusive, privately owned island, home to approximately 90 sprawling mansions of the world's rich and famous, though that's not its chief attraction.

Mustique is special because it is so unspoiled. Sailors are welcome to hike and bike the roads and trails. Touring by taxi or horseback is another option.

Stop by Basil's bar, one of the most famous in the Caribbean for dinner or drinks in an informal setting. Of course, up market dining is also available!

Day 3/night 3

Set sail for Canouan . After stopping for lunch and some excellent snorkeling in Friendship Bay, your crew will sail you around to Charleston Bay or up to the 5 star resort at Rameau Bay or Corbay for a peaceful night.

Canoan reef

Canouan has spectacular beaches, great views, and lovely walks almost anywhere. It is well worth looking at the fabulous windward reef-protected lagoon east of Charleston Bay.

Canouan also offers diver walls with giant boulders and sloping reefs. Sharks, turtles and rays are offend spotted.

Day 4/night 4

It's a short downwind sail to Mayreau in the heart of the Grenadine Islands. Our favorite anchorage there is in the Tobago Cays, which sit behind a huge reef. You'll find powdery beaches and some of the bluest water imaginable. This is a good location for water sports, beach parties, snorkeling and excellent scuba diving. You may want to spend an extra day here before moving on.

Day 5/night 5

Most guest like to stay a second full day in the Tobago Keys enjoying the beauty and water sports. You may want to take an early morning stroll to the top of Mayreau and enjoy the magnificent views of the Tobago Cays and surrounding islands.

Day 6/night 6

It's a short morning sail to Petite St. Vincent. There's excellent snorkeling off the white sand beaches. We like to stop at the bar and restaurant which has a breathtaking view of the anchorage below.

The island is privately owned and known for his exclusive cottage style resort. After lunch, continue on to the lovely island of Carriacou. The yacht may make a quick stop at Sandy Island for excellent snorkeling in this tiny palm fringed islet.

Then on to Tyrrel Bay. A beautiful, calm anchorage with a number of local bars, restaurants and rum shops.

Day 7/night 7

Start early, as we have an open water crossing to the coast of the spice isle of Grenada. Then it’s a run down the protected waters of Grenada's West Coast to Halifax Bay. This is a great place for an optional land tour. If you are staying on Grenada after your charter, it is highly recommended that you take the tour, featuring spice farms, cane fields and the rain forest, as well as the rugged coastline with spectacular views.

Day 8

It's a short sail to the lovely anchorage at Prickly Bay. You will depart the boat at noon and transfer to the airport or to your hotel.

Note: For longer trips or if your skipper feels you will have enough time, we recommend starting your trip one island north from the Island of St Lucia.
