Walking on the sun-baked sand, sailing through the clear turquoise blue water. I just love traveling to different islands. It’s such an adventure and a great opportunity. The three places that are definitely at the top of my list are Tortola, Salt Island, and The Baths.
Tortola is always the first island we visit because my aunt’s mom lives there. She’s probably one of the nicest people I know. I love going to her restaurant “Myett’s”, it’s the best food and service you can get on the beach. On this island there are tons of things to do for example you can climb a tree for fresh coconuts or climb a mountain and see a magnificent view of the island. My favorite thing to do though is going fishing. One of my friends (cousin’s uncle) is practically a fisherman even though he’s only 10 years old. When we catch fish, depending on what kind, we usually clean them out, cook them, and eat them. Mmm fresh fish is definitely better than store bought fish. From Tortola we sail or motor to Salt Island.

I love visiting Salt Island because of all the sea glass that is washed up close to shore. I usually get up to 60 pieces of sea glass. After the sea glass hunt we go to the middle of the island where the salt lake is. Not only is the island surrounded by a salty ocean but it also has a salty lake. There is a man on the island and he scoops up the salt with a net and uses a turtle shell and a turtle fin to clean the salt then he sells it ; which I think is very cool that he makes a living off of the land. I also go rock climbing, no ropes attached. This reminds me when I thought the rocks had gold in them so I picked one up to have a closer look when my cousins grandma (my aunts mom) yells “Karimah drop that its goat poop”. I was so embarrassed and grossed out.
Lastly we visit The Baths. This island has tons of great huge boulders surrounding the island. This is absolutely the best place to snorkel. There are so many beautiful fish such as Parrot fish, Angel fish, little tiny bright bluefish ect. Once in a while you come face to face with a hideous barracuda and this is when my heart drops and it feels like I’m sinking. I’m out of the water quick. After snorkeling I love to go in the caves, climb the rocks and jump off of them. Later when we're about to pass out because of all of the excitement we climb to the top of the mountain to a restaurant with a great view and relax. It’s the perfect end to an awesome day.

Now you know why I love traveling to Tortola, Salt Island, and The Baths, which are just three of many islands. It’s always an adventure and a great opportunity to travel, try different foods, and learn about a new culture. So why don’t you hop on a boat and take an adventure of your own. |
