After nearly 5 years as a successful team, our friends Mike and Lori are pursuing a new adventure and will not be returning next season. We will now be taking a full time role and following a break away at the end of the summer season, will be open again for bookings after November’s Tortola boat show.  We look forward to offering your clients, the continued high standards that has always been the     hallmark.  Hope to see many of you at the boat show. Our international mix at CharterPort continues to grow, this time with the additions of Hungarians Tamas Hamor and Sara Hajdu, and their new Dean 50 cat,XTA-SEA.  Tamas and Sara have chartered around the world, most recently in the South Pacific.  After her launch, XTA-SEA will be arriving in the Caribbean in time for Christmas / New Years.

Flavio and Neila, formerly with 123Relax, have joined catamaran True North, the Privilege 65.  True North will be spending the summer chartering in the Grenadines.

The writers from Sail Magazine want to promote how easy it is, not to mention less expensive, to fly into St. Thomas and be on a yacht within the blink of an eye. They also came aboard with the idea of leading prospective charter clients back toward booking monohulls, or at the very least, making sure that renting a monohull, either Captained or bareboat is included in the choices made by their subscribers. We have had a very eventful last few weeks. Blue Passion recently delivered a very last minute family charter down in the Grenadines, we first heard about this charter while we were sitting in Martinique, actually, writing the last email we sent to you. The enquiry was for Blue Passion to pick up Mum and Dad along with their six children aged between 9 – 15 years old. We had only five days in which to sail from Martinique to Union Island and prepare the boat for the family. The charter went extremely well, and we were very lucky to have such an exciting and lovely family onboard Blue Passion.

Our stay was so (so so so) amazing we visited many beautiful islands and caught some fish J (2 snappers). I most enjoyed the great 3 hours sail and the company of you two.

After dropping off this charter, we left Mustique and sailed back up to Saint Martin via Guadeloupe. Just off the East coast of Guadeloupe we sailed by a Pod of Humpback Whales which casually swam within a 100ft from Blue Passion, to be honest we were more nervous than excited but as they moved away we realised how fortunate we were to have seen such an impressive display of jumping and dancing around the boat.

The charter which we picked up was a four day Corporate Event. Onboard we had four business men from Holland, with the idea to charter a sailing yacht (Monohull) and talk about the different ways in which they can improve their company’s strategies for the following years. During these four days we visited Saint Martin, Saba and Anguilla. The charter again went extremely well, although very different from a boat full of young children, we really enjoyed it ourselves and would love the opportunity to do another corporate event such as this.

Once we dropped off the four gentlemen we set course to Barbados, we realised that it would be a good idea for the two of us to have our B1/B2 Visa’s, which enables us to pick up and drop off in the USVI’s. It took us four days to sail from Saint Martin in light head winds. On our approach to Barbados, to our surprise we noticed a dramatic cloud of black smoke on the horizon. We instantly turned up the VHF and scanned the horizon for any distress signals. As we got closer, we saw eight local fishermen crammed in a small deflating dinghy which was taking on water. Of course we were initially hesitant of such a large group of men, and after closely examining the situation we decided that they were not a threat to us, and that they generally needed to be rescued. Once all eight men were onboard Blue Passion and everyone was safe we plotted a course to the nearest port in Barbados. Very exciting times while we watched the boat being engulfed in flames and the cooking gas and diesel tanks exploding with huge black clouds of smoke. When we arrived in port we received a hero’s welcome and a local news team interviewed us for the news on TV!
