Planning Your Travel to the VIRGIN ISLANDS

For a charter starting in Tortola, the most convenient option is to arrive in Tortola (Beef Island Airport – code EIS) via San Juan, Puerto Rico. The most commonly used airlines are American, Liat, Caribbean Star, Jet Blue and Seaborne Air - check online with consolidating sites like Expedia and Travelocity. However, not all the airlines are available on these sites so also check with the airlines direct.

The second choice which may have more flight options - is to arrive in St. Thomas (Cyril E King Airport - code STT) and take a ferry to Tortola. Usually flights into St. Thomas are less expensive, but you should look at both options and weigh out the difference for your group. Keep in mind Tortola flights usually allow for free checked in luggage (confirm with airline), plus you save on taxi and ferry expense.

For a charter starting in St. Thomas you would simply arrive in St. Thomas (Cyril E King Airport - code STT.)

American Airlines is phasing out of the Caribbean starting with Tortola Beef Island Airport “EIS”
starting in March 2013. We recommend using the following airlines for travel between San Juan Puerto Rico “SJU”, St Thomas “STT” or St Martin “SXM” to Tortola, BVI “EIS”. You can also take a ferry from St Thomas, USVI.

Cape Air https://www.capeair.com/

Liat http://www.liatairline.com/

BVI Airways http://www.gobvi.com/

Air Sunshine http://www.airsunshine.com/

Seaborne Airlines http://www.seaborneairlines.com/

Ferries

The ferry ride is 45 minutes and costs $50 round-trip per person. The ferries run several times daily from approximately 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, starting in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas and landing in West End or Roadtown, Tortola. During the busier season there is also a 9:00 pm ferry Thursday - Sunday from Red Hook, St. Thomas to Road Town, Tortola.

Advance ferry reservations are not necessary, but are recommended if you are counting on the last ferry. In order to take the ferry the same day as your flight, you should arrive in St. Thomas before 3:30 pm. In case your only flight option is to arrive later than 3:30 pm, we suggest making hotel reservations in St. Thomas and taking a ferry the following morning to Tortola. The ferries operating between St. Thomas and Tortola are Tortola Fast Ferry, Smith's Ferry and Native Son Ferry. See Ferry Scheduals

If you need a hotel at the start/end of your charter or require accommodation for members of your party staying ashore during your holiday, our site can help.

Our Web site features several great places to stay in both St. Thomas and Tortola.
